Vitamin C (VC) has gained significant attention in the field of animal production and is widely used across various industries. However, due to its poor stability, a certain amount of VC is often lost during feed processing, storage, or feeding. As a result, selecting the right form of VC has become a critical concern for feed manufacturers and aquaculture companies. Choosing the appropriate VC source ensures better bioavailability and effectiveness, ultimately supporting the health and performance of animals.
The importance of Vitamin C in animal breeding cannot be overstated. It is an essential nutrient for all animals, playing a key role in boosting immunity and enhancing disease resistance. VC is vital for sustaining life and promoting growth. Research shows that healthy adult livestock can synthesize sufficient amounts of VC in the liver or kidneys to meet their needs. However, under stressful conditions such as high temperatures, humidity, transportation, vaccination, illness, or sudden temperature changes, the body's ability to produce VC may be compromised. These deficiencies can also cause skeletal abnormalities, such as deformed spines, cartilage development issues, hemorrhaging, and erosion. Such problems make fish and shrimp more vulnerable to bacterial and viral diseases. For this reason, VC is considered a crucial additive in aquaculture feeds, ensuring optimal growth, health, and survival of aquatic species.
