Indian stone companies are fighting for the Russian stone market

In recent years, the demand for Russian granite and marble market has increased significantly, and Indian natural stone exporters have begun to strive for the Russian market share. From June 23rd to 27th, 2009, 15 Indian stone companies participated in the Russian stone exhibition, where a series of stone products and processing techniques were exhibited. India’s largest stone company participated in the annual Russian stone exhibition and the Indian business community’s indifference to the Russian market.

It is reported that India's natural stone exports rose from less than $6 million from 2005 to 2006 to $19 million last year. Most of India's stone has reached the Russian market through China or other countries, and its price has tripled compared to direct exports from India. In Russia, Indian granite and marble are mostly used to decorate public buildings or private homes, such as the new Kazan underground passage, which uses Indian stone.

Veeramani, president of the Indian Natural Stone Products Association, said: "Our current goal is to recapture the Russian market from other Indian stone exporters." The European and American markets are the main markets for Indian stone exports. Last year, the export value reached 1.35 billion US dollars, but the current economic crisis is serious. Hit the Indian stone industry. Due to the prosperity of the Russian construction industry, its natural stone market has increased by 5% to 10% this year.

Mr. Veeramani, President of GEM Granites of India, said: "We must work hard to catch up with the Chinese and Western companies' share of the Russian market." He believes that India missed the opportunity to fully open the Russian market in 1990 and then develop the Russian market. It is even behind China and the West.
