Examples include high-pressure mercury lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, and metal halide lamps. These are often used in outdoor lighting, industrial settings, and large commercial spaces due to their high brightness and efficiency.
Among these, metal halide lamps represent a newer and more advanced light source. They are developed based on the principles of both high-pressure mercury lamps and tungsten halogen lamps. The key innovation is the addition of various metal halides inside the arc tube, which helps produce light more efficiently. These metal atoms behave similarly to mercury, emitting electrons and producing visible light. By using different combinations of metal halides, manufacturers can tailor the color and performance characteristics of the lamp, making them versatile for a wide range of lighting applications.
