Epoxy Flooring Construction Plan
Step 1: Surface Treatment 1. New industrial floors require a curing period of approximately 28 days before any construction can begin. 2. Remove surface slurry, old paint, and debris using appropriate tools. 3. Thoroughly degrease the surface using a professional degreaser like King Oil Cleaner. 4. Dry the floor completely, ensuring all standing water is removed. 5. Clean the surface meticulously with a dust-free sweeper and a powerful vacuum cleaner. 6. Ensure the surface is flat with a void of 2 to 2.5 mm, moisture content below 6%, and a pH between 6 and 80. 7. Grind the floor surface with a dust-free grinder and vacuum thoroughly. 8. Apply putty to any holes or depressions, allowing it to dry before sanding off any dust. Step 2: Sealing Coat Application 1. Once the surface is clean and smooth, apply an epoxy sealing primer using high-pressure airless spraying or rollers. 2. The sealing primer is highly penetrative; thinners should be added to dilute the primer, allowing it to seep into the base layer and enhance adhesion. Ensure the application is continuous without interruptions, just enough to saturate the surface. 3. Any missed spots can be touched up with a brush, and excess primer must be polished before proceeding. Step 3: Putty Scraping 1. After the primer has cured, apply two layers of putty on the surface to ensure durability against wear, pressure, impact, water, oils, acids, and alkalis. This step also helps to achieve a perfectly flat surface. 2. Use 100-200 mesh quartz sand mixed with epoxy putty for the first layer. Mix thoroughly and apply smoothly. This layer primarily enhances abrasion and compression resistance. 3. Sand the first layer of putty with a dust-free sander and vacuum the surface. 4. Use 200-270 mesh quartz sand with epoxy putty for the second layer, mixing thoroughly and smoothing evenly. This layer focuses on improving surface flatness and abrasion resistance. 5. Sand the second layer of putty with a dust-free sander and vacuum again. 6. After both layers of putty have dried, repair any pockmarks or cracks before sanding with a flat sander and cleaning the surface. 7. The amount of quartz sand used varies based on the specific conditions of the floor, determined by the site engineer. Step 4: Intermediate Coating 1. Once the putty is cleaned and dried (at 20°C, approximately 24 hours), apply an epoxy floor coating over the surface. The coating can be applied via brushing, scraping, or high-pressure airless spraying. High-pressure airless spraying is recommended, with a pressure of 20 to 25 MPa. 2. At this stage, the floor becomes smoother, making it easier to identify any remaining imperfections for leveling in subsequent layers. 3. This step also allows the client to arrange equipment installation. Step 5: Final Coating 1. After the intermediate layer has dried, apply the final epoxy floor coating. The coating can be applied via scraping or high-pressure airless spraying, with the latter being preferred. 2. Before painting, the intermediate layer should be sanded and vacuumed using a dust-free sander. 3. If the intermediate layer dries quickly, and equipment installation causes new defects, apply a layer of putty to level and polish the surface, followed by vacuuming and cleaning the sprayed surface.
