Progress in the development of pressurized pipette furnaces for engineering thermophysics

Clean and efficient use of coal is an inevitable choice to ensure national energy security, energy conservation, and emission reductions. Coal gasification technology is a key technology for clean and efficient use of coal. In-depth research on coal pyrolysis, combustion, and gasification is a coal gasification technology research and development, reactor design. Work with the important foundation of the operation. The pressure dropping pipe furnace has the characteristics of continuous feeding, high heating rate, high temperature, and high pressure environment close to the actual reactor, and is an important means for studying the kinetics of coal pyrolysis, combustion and gasification reaction.

Under the auspices of the major research equipment development projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Energy Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences took the lead in launching and successfully developed a pressure drop tube furnace, and carried out high temperature (~1400°C), high pressure (~3.0MPa) and high temperature rise. Coal pyrolysis, combustion, and gasification experimental studies at a rate (~105°C/s) deepen the understanding of coal reaction processes and help to explore ways to improve coal conversion efficiency and optimize reactor design for coal gasification reactions. Kinetic studies and reactor design and performance prediction provide theoretical and fundamental data support. The following major advances have been made:

1. Development of a pressurized microfeeder. An atmospheric micro-feeder was developed, and the feed rate, accuracy, and stability that satisfy the experimental study were obtained. On the basis of atmospheric micro-feeder, through the improvement of the system flow, component structure and operating parameters, the successful development of micro-feeder pressure, through the experiment, the feed amount of pressurized micro-feeder ≤ 0.8g/min, The stability is less than 8% and the accuracy is less than 5%. All of them meet or exceed the design specifications.

2. Development and system integration of pressurized pipette furnace body. The core part is mainly composed of two parts: a drop tube furnace and a preheating furnace. The reactor tube, heating element, insulation layer, pressure shell, sampling and other components and operating parameters are optimized, and temperature control is adopted to realize the length of the constant temperature zone. 1m, up to 1.6m, design temperature temperature fluctuations in the constant temperature zone ≤ ± 3%, or < ± 1%.

3. Coal pyrolysis and gasification experimental study based on pressurized pipe furnace. The coal pyrolysis, gasification experimental study and gasification reaction kinetics of pyrolytic coking of different types of coal and different particle size pulverized coal particles under high temperature, high pressure, and high heating rate were carried out. Scientific research projects provide important foundational support.

The “Research and Development of Pressurized Drip Tube Furnace System” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ major research equipment development project supported by the above work has passed the acceptance. The relevant research results have been published in the EI journal Advanced Materials Research, and 4 patents and 2 authorizations have been applied.
