Their evaluation framework focuses on four main criteria: the success rate of patent applications, the breadth of global patent filings, the influence of patents, and the volume of truly innovative patents. Thomson Reuters assesses companies’ patent application numbers and grants over the previous three years while also tracking how often those patents have been cited by others in the last five years.
The report highlights that the world's top 100 innovative companies saw an average market-weighted revenue growth of 15% in 2011, outperforming the S&P 500 index, and showcasing strong financial health. Geographically, the U.S. leads with 47 companies上榜 this year, up by seven compared to 2011. Japan follows with 25 spots, two fewer than last year, while South Korea climbed to seventh place with three additional companies. Europe, however, dropped by eight listings, totaling 21 companies.
