In recent years, incidents such as toxic kidney beans and formaldehyde-infused cabbages have drawn widespread public attention to the misuse of highly toxic pesticides. Despite regulations issued by the State Council in 2001 and revised in 2010, along with various local measures, the abuse of these chemicals on fruits and vegetables remains a serious issue. During National Food Safety Awareness Week from June 17 to June 27, a reporter from "The Economy Half Hour" traveled to Weinan City in Shaanxi Province, a major agricultural area, to investigate the pesticide use in one of its key vegetable production bases.
In the southern Fujian agricultural market, which spans a large area of Qinchuan, over 100 pesticide shops were found selling highly toxic substances. These stores operate without proper certification or real-name registration, allowing unrestricted access to dangerous chemicals. One shop owner readily recommended “Oxygen**,†a banned pesticide known for its high toxicity. The Ministry of Agriculture had restricted its use since 2002, yet the shopkeeper claimed it could be safely used on all crops.
The reporter observed that some pesticides were stored in sealed containers, handled with care due to their extreme danger. However, despite clear warnings on labels prohibiting use on food crops, the store owner encouraged spraying on vegetables, claiming they were safe. This practice contradicts strict national rules requiring real-name purchases and detailed tracking of highly toxic pesticides.
In another shop, the owner was cautious when asked about restrictions, but later promoted a banned pesticide called “3911,†which is prohibited for use on fruits and vegetables. The shop lacked any special counter or registration system, making it easy for buyers to obtain these harmful substances without oversight.
Farmers in the region are aware of the dangers, yet many still use these pesticides. They often separate their own produce from what they sell, reserving non-pesticide-treated vegetables for home consumption. Some even admit that the long-term effects of pesticide use are severe, including increased cancer risks.
In Hua County, a major vegetable base, discarded pesticide bottles and packaging littered the fields. Farmers reported using pesticides every ten days, regardless of whether pests were present. Many rely on cheap, effective, and highly toxic options like organophosphates, which are cheaper than conventional alternatives and more efficient at killing pests.
Despite national bans, farmers continue to access these pesticides through informal channels. Some banned products are repackaged and sold under different names, making them difficult to trace. Local officials seem unaware or unable to enforce regulations effectively.
Experts like Jiang Gaoming, a botanist from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, warn that excessive pesticide use has led to environmental degradation, ecological imbalance, and increased pest resistance. He emphasizes that sustainable farming methods, such as biological pest control, could reduce reliance on harmful chemicals. However, farmers often prioritize cost and efficiency over long-term safety.
Cases of pesticide poisoning have been reported across China, including toxic cowpeas in Hainan, poisoned leeks in Qingdao, and toxic ginger in Shandong. These incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement and better education on safe pesticide use.
To address this crisis, the government must increase subsidies for eco-friendly agriculture and encourage consumers to support higher-quality, safer produce. Without systemic change, the cycle of pesticide abuse will persist, endangering both public health and the environment. It's time for stronger regulations, better monitoring, and a shift toward sustainable farming practices.
CBN Grinding Wheels
CBN is a man-made Superabrasive that
outperforms Diamond when used for Ferrous grinding operations.
CBN derives its name from its chemical
makeup, of the cubic form of boron nitride (CBN). It has a very desirable
characteristic that is sought after when working with difficult to grind (DTG)
materials.
Due to its high thermal stability and
chemical resistance, the CBN grinding wheel is most suitable for grinding hard
ferrous materials, hardened steel, bearing steel, nickel based
alloys. machining ferrous materials.
CBN Grinding Wheels are used to sharpen,
cut, or remove metal from hard surfaces. Use these wheels when you need a good
consistent finish.
Most notably CBN wheels are used to cut HSS
metals, like wood tools, blades, bits, and cutters. This type of steel is
better than the older high-carbon steel because it can withstand higher
temperatures. When you`re tools become dull over time from use, a CBN wheel
will bring them back to its sharp use.
Kemei produce CBN(cubic boron nitride)grinding
wheels, which can be resin bonded CBN wheel, metal bonded CBN wheels and
electroplated Diamond Grinding Wheels. For same steel parts, you can choose all
three types CBN wheels, but there still some difference, if you need more
information and the best solutions ,please contact us.
