Semi-precious gem

In gemology, gemstones are typically categorized into two main groups: precious stones and semi-precious stones. The four most recognized precious stones are diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. All other gemstones, such as amethyst, quartz, and opal, fall under the category of semi-precious stones. Though they may not be as rare or valuable as their precious counterparts, semi-precious stones come in a wide variety, each with unique properties, identification methods, and market values. Semi-precious stones include a vast range of minerals and organic materials. Some of the most common ones are tourmaline, crystal (quartz), lapis lazuli, topaz, garnet, peridot, tiger's eye, labradorite, moonstone, star sapphire, obsidian, malachite, turquoise, agate, chalcedony, fluorite, opal, and more. Additionally, organic gems like amber, pearls, and coral are also considered semi-precious due to their natural origin and aesthetic appeal. With the growing popularity of crystal jewelry, many semi-precious stones have become increasingly sought after. Their affordability, beauty, and spiritual significance make them a favorite choice for both collectors and everyday wear. As a result, these stones are often grouped under the broader term "crystal," even if they don't fit the traditional definition. This shift has helped bring attention to the diversity and value of semi-precious stones, making them more accessible to a wider audience.
