After Qualcomm launched Quick Charge 3.0, MediaTek officially announced the launch of its next-generation fast charging solution, Pump Express 3.0. It is understood that Pump Express 3.0 can charge the smartphone's battery from zero to 70% in 20 minutes.
With Pump Express 3.0, as long as the user charges for five minutes, the phone can talk for up to four hours. MediaTek said that this speed is almost twice as high as the current competition in the market, and it is five times faster than the traditional charging technology.
In addition, Pump Express 3.0 is the world’s first fast charging solution using the USB Type-C interface for direct charging. Direct charging can bypass the internal charging circuit of the mobile phone, and the current of the power adapter flows directly to the battery, so as to effectively prevent the mobile phone from causing hot issues during charging.
The major features of Pump Express 3.0 include: faster charging speed, higher charging efficiency, and lower phone temperature when charging. With direct charging, the power consumption of the Pump Express 3.0 is reduced by up to 50% compared to the Pump Express 2.0.
It is reported that Pump Express 3.0 will be the first to be applied to Mediatek Helio P20 (the first ten-core processor). Terminal equipment is expected to be available by the end of 2016. The solution will also be used in the future smart phone chipset, and can also be added to the existing smart phone SoC of MediaTek based on customer demand.
