Development of low-carbon bricks with good oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance to molten steel

Due to the damage mechanism of the exit sleeve sleeves, the wear of the molten steel flow dominates, and the gas phase oxidation of the graphite during operation and standby contributes to wear. Therefore, development of low-carbon bricks having good oxidation resistance and resistance to molten steel wear has been performed, and use examples of low-carbon bricks including antioxidants including metal powders have been appropriately reported. The charging-side furnace wall bricks consider that the corrosion of the furnace wall on the charging side is more dominant than the erosion caused by the slag, and the mechanical wear caused by scrap iron and molten iron is cutting and flaking. In brick properties, high temperature strength is considered important. A high-strength, high-elasticity brick was studied, and a brick added with an alloy was recently developed, and high durability was reported in practical use. On the charging side of the furnace wall, the durability of the brick itself is limited, generally by slag and flame spraying and used to maintain durability. The main reason for the erosion of the tile brick at the bottom of the furnace is considered to be thermal spalling and molten steel wear. Regarding the use of a brick for the tuyere, bricks with excellent thermal shock resistance and oxidation resistance using special additives such as carbides have been developed and practically used. The erosion mechanism of a brick widely used in converters has been described as the center. In the progress of refractory materials, it is considered that elucidating the mechanism of corrosion is indispensable. With respect to the refractory materials used in converters, one brick has become the mainstream, and most of the basic erosion mechanisms have been identified. However, the reality is that the multifunctionality of the converter has been developing rapidly year after year, requiring higher performance of refractory materials, especially a brick, than ever before.
