This module provides access to a standard parts database and query system. It contains data on standard components from the National Standard for Stamping, enabling designers to quickly obtain the exact shape and size parameters of required mold components without manually searching through physical standards. The module also includes a powerful search function that automatically selects appropriate standard parts based on predefined parameters and selection rules, improving efficiency and reducing errors in the design process.
The standard part class module offers a range of functionalities, such as calculating coordinates of each point in a drawing based on given parameters, generating detailed drawings of various standard parts, automatically adding dimensions, tolerances, surface finish specifications, and text annotations, as well as creating title blocks. It also supports previewing graphics, making it easier for users to visualize and validate their designs before finalizing them.
The library is built using a parameterized approach, allowing for flexible and scalable management of standard parts. Although the shapes of standard parts may vary, the general process of building the library remains consistent. A well-structured database is crucial due to the large volume of data involved, ensuring ease of access and efficient use in future design projects.
As an example, the rear guide post mold base from the national die standard is used. This component has 16 parameters, with L, B, H or D0, H being the dominant ones. For a lower mold base with a concave shape, L, B, and H are key, while for a circular shape, D0 and H take precedence. Once these leading parameters are defined, the specifications of the lower mold base can be determined. Therefore, the primary challenge in building the library lies in establishing a suitable database and implementing an accurate search mechanism.
This system utilizes VB (Visual Basic) combined with an external program and Visual Data Manager 0 to create an Access database named "rear side guide post lower mold base.mdb". The table within the database is named "hxm0", containing 17 fields—each representing a specific parameter. When a parameter has no value, it is set to zero. Each record in the table corresponds to a modular base. By using the leading parameters, other parameters can be retrieved using SQL queries. For instance, if D0=200mm and H=50mm are known, the following SQL statement can be used to retrieve the rest of the parameters. The system also supports generating previews and exporting them into AutoCAD R14 for further use.
In conclusion, this system leverages the user-friendly and powerful object-oriented language VB to perform secondary development on AutoCAD R14. The parameterized catalog of mold standard parts significantly reduces the design cycle and accelerates product development. It also provides a practical approach for applying VB in other industries, offering real-world value in manufacturing and engineering processes.
