Despite the difficult market environment, Sichuan's furniture industry experienced significant growth, standing out against the trend.
According to the annual meeting of the Sichuan Furniture Industry Chamber of Commerce in 2012, from January to November, Sichuan's furniture output increased by 27.24%, far surpassing Guangdong's 11.73% growth rate during the same period. This made Sichuan the top-performing region in the furniture industry.
The gap between "Made in Sichuan" and "Made in Guangdong" is gradually narrowing. In 2013, the Sichuan Furniture Industry Chamber of Commerce aimed to double the annual sales of Sichuan furniture to 120 billion yuan within two to three years, targeting a 10% share of the national consumer market.
The influence of Sichuan furniture is growing, especially when compared to Guangdong. Sichuan brands are becoming more flexible and comfortable, with many focusing on channel strategies to respond to the overall decline in first-tier markets. As a result, Sichuan furniture has gained a stronger presence in second- and third-tier markets, which are less affected by real estate regulations.
Sichuan furniture's "value for money" positioning and small-profit, quick-sale business model have helped it gain a strong foothold in these regions. While coastal furniture companies face tougher conditions, Sichuan furniture companies are enjoying relatively better days.
In the furniture market, the gap between "Made in Sichuan" and "Made in Guangdong" is narrowing, with Sichuan gaining an edge in geographic reach and marketing strategy. The Sichuan Furniture Industry Chamber of Commerce president noted that Sichuan's focus on central and western inland markets, along with its alignment with the country’s push for rural urbanization, has allowed it to grow faster than Guangdong during industry adjustments. However, Guangdong still leads in total output value.
Looking ahead, the Sichuan Furniture Industry Chamber of Commerce has proposed a development plan focused on "expanding and increasing sales volume." Starting in 2013, the goal is to gather top brands, attack together, dig deeper, and enter first-tier urban markets while deepening the second- and third-tier markets. The aim is to double Sichuan furniture sales from the existing 60 billion yuan to 120 billion yuan within two to three years, capturing 10% of the national furniture consumption market.
