Seven categories of air-conditioning aluminum foil

Air conditioning has become an essential part of summer, especially during vacation periods. As air conditioners have become a common household appliance, they have also undergone continuous technological advancements. Today, air conditioning systems are evolving toward miniaturization, higher performance, and longer lifespan. In line with this trend, the heat exchange sheets used in air conditioners have also advanced, becoming thinner and more durable. In the 1980s, the thickness of heat exchange sheets was typically between 0.15 to 0.2 mm. However, modern heat exchange sheets now range from 0.09 to 0.15 mm. These improvements help increase the lifespan of air conditioners, reduce energy consumption, enhance ventilation quality, and improve cooling efficiency. To meet these demands, various types of aluminum foils have been developed for different applications. 1. **Non-coated Aluminum Foil** This type of aluminum foil is produced by rolling and annealing without any surface treatment. It was widely used in air conditioning units around 15 years ago in China. Even today, about 60% of heat exchange foils in China still use non-coated aluminum, while in some developed countries, the proportion is around 50%. 2. **Coated Aluminum Foil** Coated aluminum foil undergoes surface treatment to provide special properties. This technology has been widely used in countries like Japan and Germany for over 15 years, but in China, its adoption has only been around 10 years. 3. **Corrosion-Resistant Aluminum Foil** This type features a protective layer that enhances resistance to corrosion. It is ideal for harsh environments, significantly extending the life of air conditioners. Additionally, it reduces the formation of corrosive powder, improving air quality and ventilation performance. 4. **Hydrophilic Aluminum Foil** Hydrophilic aluminum foil has a surface that strongly attracts water. The hydrophilicity is measured by the contact angle of water on the surface—lower angles indicate better performance. Typically, a contact angle below 35° is considered hydrophilic. This type is commonly used in condensers, helping moisture spread evenly and drain efficiently, thus improving heat exchange efficiency and saving energy. 5. **Hydrophobic Aluminum Foil** Unlike hydrophilic foil, hydrophobic aluminum foil repels water. Its contact angle is usually above 75°, making it ideal for applications where water needs to slide off quickly. This helps prevent water buildup between heat exchanger fins, enhancing overall performance. 6. **Self-Lubricating Aluminum Foil** Traditional processing involves applying lubricants before punching, followed by cleaning with trichloroethylene, which is harmful. Self-lubricating aluminum foil eliminates this step by pre-treating the surface with a lubricant film, reducing environmental impact and simplifying the manufacturing process. 7. **Mildew-Resistant Aluminum Foil** This type is mainly used in indoor units to prevent mold growth on heat exchange surfaces due to long-term storage or use. It improves air quality and prevents unpleasant odors, creating a healthier environment in air-conditioned spaces. With ongoing innovations in materials and technology, the future of air conditioning looks even brighter, promising greater efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
