Over 321 stainless steel flat bar prices have been experiencing consistent downward pressure in recent days. According to the latest steel index, from March 6th up to yesterday, the price of stainless steel flat bars has dropped by approximately 0.5 to 1 point per day. The market saw a decline of 0.77% on the last trading day, with the price settling at 3,850 yuan per ton. This is a significant drop compared to the 4,270 yuan per ton recorded during the same period last year, marking a nearly 10% decrease over the past year.
In Guangzhou, the price of high-grade mainstream stainless steel flat bars was reported at 3,800 yuan per ton yesterday, down by 20 yuan per ton from the previous day. Compared to the average of 40 yuan per ton in the previous month, this reflects a noticeable downward trend. Meanwhile, the price of rebar-style stainless steel flat bars stood at 3,830 yuan per ton, also down by 20 yuan from the prior day, and 110 yuan lower than the previous month’s average. Hot-rolled stainless steel flat bars were priced at 3,040 yuan per ton, down 60 yuan from the previous day, while the monthly average had dropped by 140 yuan. Strip steel prices were at 3,720 yuan per ton, showing an average increase of 90 yuan from the previous day and a monthly decline of 180 yuan.
Recently, Shagang Group, one of the leading steel construction companies and the largest private steel producer in China, had resisted market price cuts for some time. However, under increasing market pressure, the company announced price reductions for traders on the 11th. In its mid-March ex-factory price announcement, rebar prices were cut by 250 yuan per ton, while wire and coiled screws were reduced by 100 yuan each. The new rebar price now stands at 3,800 yuan per ton, with high-line steel at 3,900 yuan per ton and snail steel at 3,900 yuan per ton as well.
Analysts noted, "Shagang's downward adjustment of stainless steel flat bar prices has exceeded our expectations. Following Shagang's price cut, companies like Zhongtian and Yonggang also adjusted their ex-factory prices, which helped ease the pressure on steel traders." Despite these adjustments, steel traders did not seem eager to buy. On the second trading day after the price cut, most traders continued to sell off their stock, particularly avoiding Shagang products.
