According to data released by the China National Coatings Industry Association, the total amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted by the Chinese paint coating industry to the atmosphere is about 4.3 million tons per year, of which oil paint accounts for about 98%, and water-based paints account for about 2%. Zheng Zaihong, deputy director of the Pollution Prevention and Control Department of the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, told social enterprises that the current work is to promote the replacement of all organic solvent-based coatings (oily coatings) into water-based coatings, or they will completely withdraw from the market. "According to the standard implementation date, the requirements for the second period will be implemented from January 1, 2017, that is, the Beijing furniture manufacturing industry prohibits the use of organic solvent-based (oily) paint spraying processes."

Water-based paint promotion accelerated

Water-based paint is an important solution to reduce VOC emissions during furniture production. For now, the proportion of water-based paints used in the furniture industry has risen, but it is still small. After two years of scientific research and development and production line transformation, the entire line of Qumei Furniture has been changed to water-based paint in 2014. As a pilot demonstration unit of the water-based paint promotion project of the 100 environmental protection reforms of the Environmental Protection Agency, Qumei also participated in the standard and technical reform research on the use of water-based paints.

The furniture company in Beijing is steadily rectifying

The cost will not be passed on to the consumer

How difficult is it to replace water-based paint ?
