Taiwan builds the world's largest solar cell manufacturing plant

Two years ago, building a GW-scale photovoltaic production facility was considered a big problem. Now as more and more companies reach the GW scale, the next step is to enter the capacity of several GW. Taiwan's Neo Solar Power Corp is involved in this.

At the end of August 2010, Taiwan's new solar power company has been building the world's largest solar cell manufacturing plant. The facility will invest US$837 million to produce 3.4 GW batteries a year. The first stage of the facility is 400MW in size. According to reports, Taiwan's new solar power company will be completed in the first half of 2011.

The company has a capacity of 620MW in northern Taiwan, and the company will expand the facility to 800MW by the end of 2010.

According to most analyses, 2010 will be the year of harvest for solar facilities. According to iSuppli, which is engaged in consulting, about 13.6 GW of photovoltaics will be installed in 2010. Although a few large European market stimulus policies have converged, iSuppli Corporation still predicts that the photovoltaic facilities will exceed 20 GW in 2011. Due to the demand in the second half of 2010 It will be unexpectedly high and it will be increasingly difficult to obtain solar photovoltaic panels. The price of silicon has started to rise.

Companies like Taiwan’s new solar power companies are accelerating their development to ensure stable supply of solar cells and modules in these high growth years. Some analysts have begun to worry that photovoltaic cells will be subject to supply restrictions around 2012.
