Hanwha Q Cells and U.S. venture companies join hands to reduce solar cell wafer manufacturing costs by half

South Korea's Hanhwa Q Cells and U.S. venture company 1366 Technologies (1366 Technologies) announced on March 5, 2015 that they have reached a cooperation agreement to develop high-performance, low-cost solar cells. The two companies will use the 1366 technology company's silicon wafer manufacturing technology "Direct Wafer" and other cooperative development. If the cooperative development is successful, both parties may expand cooperation to wafer supply and other aspects.

Direct Wafer is a technology that uses molten Si to directly manufacture polycrystalline silicon wafers. The technical details were not announced, but 1366 Technologies, when releasing the technology at the International Society for Solar Cells in October 2013, pointed out that the introduction of Si raw materials into the furnace can directly produce standard size solar cells. Compared with the original silicon wafer manufacturing process, manufacturing processes such as silicon germanium and wafer cutting are omitted, so that wafer manufacturing costs can be greatly reduced by half.

In March 2009, 1366 Technologies first used Direct Wafer to prototype small-size wafers. In June 2010, the wafer size was successfully increased to the industry standard 156mm square. Later, solar cells using silicon wafers manufactured using Direct Wafer gradually increased conversion efficiency. In August 2010, the unit conversion efficiency was only 14%, increased to 15% in July 2011, and further increased to 16% in March 2012.

In January 2013, silicon wafers were tested on four large-scale solar cell manufacturers with an annual production capacity of 1GW or more. As a result, the average cell conversion efficiency reached 17.1% (Jsc=35.0mA/cm2, Voc=618mV, FF=78.9). %). In July 2014, the highest value of unit conversion efficiency was increased to 18%.

1366 Technology Corporation announced that it will begin construction of a 250MW production facility in the United States in the third quarter of 2015. (Reporter: He Jiji)

Pollen Screen

Pollen screens have become an essential tool for individuals who suffer from allergies or sensitivities to pollen. These screens are specifically designed to filter out pollen particles, providing relief and creating a more comfortable indoor environment. Made from a fine mesh material, pollen screens effectively trap and prevent pollen from entering through windows and doors, reducing the allergen levels inside. By blocking pollen, these screens help alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and congestion. With their easy installation and low maintenance requirements, pollen screens offer a practical and effective solution for creating a pollen-free sanctuary within your home, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of nature without the discomfort of allergies.
