Chemical industry: The export situation of plastic products is becoming increasingly severe

The European Union's Food Chain and Animal Health Committee (SCFCAH) recently decided that from March 1, 2011, the use of plastics containing chemical substances such as bisphenol A should be prohibited in the production of baby bottles. At the same time, the European Union requires member states to ban the import of plastic baby bottles containing chemical substance bisphenol A from June 1, 2011. In recent days, the European Commission announced that it has not currently considered plans to ban the use of bisphenol A in food packaging materials other than plastic milk bottles.

Chang Yingzhi, a researcher in the chemical industry of China Investment Advisors, believes that from the perspective of the European Commission, the EU has not completely banned the use of bisphenol A. However, from the long-term development trend, the demand for chemical products in countries such as Europe and the United States has gradually increased, and in the future China's export of packaged food and plastic products will encounter certain trade barriers.

According to the "2010-2015 China New Materials Industry Investment Analysis and Forecast Report" released by the China Investment Advisor, bisphenol A is mainly used for coating of hard plastic products and food and beverage cans, which will be precipitated during the heating process. Accumulative use of related products over a long period of time can lead to disruption of hormone levels in the body. In daily life, there are mainly plastic water bottles, plastic tableware and other products.

At present, Canada has banned the use of bisphenol A in all food packaging and containers. Australia is also gradually eliminating baby bottles containing bisphenol A. Other countries have also made strict limits on the content of bisphenol A. Among them, our country stipulates that the amount of phenol dissolved in PC plastic is not more than 0.05mg/kg.

Chang Yongzhi also pointed out that China’s export situation for packaged foods and plastics products will become increasingly severe. In response to possible trade barriers, AQSIQ will implement bisphenol A for all import and export food packaging products at the end of 2009. Content has been censused. At the same time, related plastic products manufacturing companies are also actively developing alternative products of bisphenol A.
